Wadena, MN Tornado: Blocks of Homes Damaged

MINNEAPOLIS - About 20 people were injured and blocked of homes were damaged when a tornado touched down early Thursday evening.
A witness told FOX 9, dozens of home were damaged.
Storm chaser Peggy Willenberg (Twister Sisters) reported a tornado touch down near Wadena, Minn. shortly after 5 p.m.
Lori Wolden, wife of Wadena mayor Wayne Wolden, says "there's houses half-gone" and "there's no trees" in the southwest part of town.

Wolden says she was at her downtown beauty shop when the storm hit at 5:15 p.m. She says the winds were "amazing."

She says power also was knocked out. An hour later, she says, it was sunny.
Tornadoes Kill 2 People
Tornadoes killed an elderly woman in Almora and a man in Mentor.According to Ottertail County Public Information Officer David Hauser, the woman was pronounced dead on the scene. Her husband was transported to Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. His injuries are unknown.
The Polk County sheriff's department says a man was killed when a twister hit the Cenex station in Mentor, in northwest Minnesota.
Injuries
At least 20 people were injured in Wadena. Three people were injured in Prairie's Park.
Disaster Teams
Three Salvation Army disaster response teams are responding to storm damaged cities throughout Minnesota. The Fargo Salvation Army team is responding to Wadena, MN while the Albert Lea team is responding to Kiester, MN. The Mankato Salvation Army is responding to various damage reports in their surrounding area. Teams of staff and volunteers are prepared to serve food, snacks and beverages and to provide assistance with housing if needed.
Search and Rescue
Crews in Freeborn County are in the process of search and rescue. They have reported several injuries.
Governor Tim Pawlenty plans to visit the Wadena and Albert Lea area on Friday.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost in the severe storms that swept across our state this evening. Our emergency management officials have been working closely with local officials and we stand ready to assist in every way needed. Tomorrow we will visit the areas hit hardest by these tornadoes to ensure that the response is swift and comprehensive."
